SNA is so excited to announce a street mural project, planned by Sunnyland neighbor Megan Starr and made possible by a gift from the Project Neighborly Fund of the Whatcom Community Foundation. Find us at the corner of Dean and Texas during the Sunnyland Stomp and help bring this beautiful art to life!
The mural was designed by Keith Negley, and will be executed by a team of professional and amateur artists, you included! Neighbors of all ages and artistic abilities are welcome to participate in painting; the community painting portion of the event is expected to begin around noon and last until 5pm.
Sunnyland Neighborhood Parents of Preschoolers (and babies) will meet to play or walk together. Join a walk through the neighborhood that starts at Sunnyland Park, or just stay and play on the playground.
POP seeks to build community between neighbors who are also parents or caregivers at biweekly meetups, every other Saturday at Sunnyland Park. Stay in touch by joining our email list and our WhatsApp group chat. More info here.

Do you worry about ”the big one”? Have you wanted to prepare for an emergency of some kind? Do you have any emergency training or knowledge that you’d like to share?
Sunnyland has been chosen as the pilot neighborhood for a neighborhood-level approach to emergency preparedness, created by Doug Bestle, Whatcom CERT Program Manager of the county’s Division of Emergency Management, and Greg Hope, the city’s Education and Outreach Coordinator. If you’re interested in, concerned about, and/or trained in any aspect of emergencies, please come to our one-hour gathering on Thursday, June 6, at 6:00pm, at Sunnyland Park to learn about the different emergency preparedness programs and resources in our area. All neighbors are encouraged to attend; snacks, chairs, and shelter will be provided. If you’re CERT certified, we’d especially appreciate your attendance and input; our next step is to develop CERT cohorts by neighborhood. Sunnyland’s gathering and cohort will help guide this city-wide approach for other neighborhoods; we have a special opportunity to shape it in ways that will be most helpful for all!
For additional resources, the city and the county have online and print materials to help people be prepared at many levels for a variety of emergencies.
Reminder: SNA offers a tuition scholarship for anyone 18 or older interested in taking the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training!
