We’ve created this page to give easy access to resources about our little community. Whether you’ve lived in Sunnyland 50 years or you’re moving here next month, we hope you’ll find it useful! Please share with your neighbors, and let us know if there’s anything you think we should add.

Take a stroll through Sunnyland to see how many breweries, little free libraries, and friendly neighbors you can find! With two parks inside our neighborhood boundaries and a few more just outside, we’ve got plenty of space to play. You may find us at one of those parks, throwing a party, offering fitness classes, or having a neighborhood picnic. ZONING

Our neighborhood is unique in its diversity of zoning types. Multi-family and single family areas surround a commercial section on James Street, and industrial uses dominate the southern third of the neighborhood. Find a full map and zoning table here.

SCHOOLS

Bellingham Public Schools serve the students of Sunnyland. Kids in our neighborhood attend Parkview Elementary, Sunnyland Elementary, Whatcom Middle, Bellingham High, and Options High. Find your student’s school and bus route on the Bellingham Schools’ InfoFinder page.

The Church of the Assumption, located in Sunnyland, also operates a school serving preschoolers through 8th graders, and Trinity Lutheran has a pre-school, too.

REPRESENTATION

Sunnyland is in the City of Bellingham in Whatcom County. Our neighborhood is divided into two City Council Wards. Ward 2 includes most of northern Sunnyland, while most of Lower Sunnyland sits in Ward 3.

Our neighborhood also spans two separate County Council districts; most of the neighborhood south of Carolina Street is represented by the District 1 council member, while those north of Carolina are represented by the District 2 seat. Find detailed precinct maps here.

The Sunnyland Neighborhood Association Board sends a delegate to the Mayor’s Neighborhood Advisory Commission meeting each month to share Sunnyland’s interests and concerns.
